School Day

The length of the school day for all children at Richmond Methodist Primary and Nursery School is 6 and a half hours and this amounts to a total of 32.5 hours per week.

EYFS:

The school day starts at 8:50am and finishes at 3:20pm

At RMS, our EYFS practitioners facilitate active learning using the children’s interests as an engaging starting point and then the wider EYFS Curriculum is subtly woven in to maximise each child’s learning development across the seven areas of development. Our children enjoy self-directed, open-ended learning for the majority of the school day. The children are able to choose to work both inside and outside as appropriate, actively accessing challenging learning opportunities and our provision is specifically designed with open ended resources, including the EYFS adults themselves. More information is available on our EYFS page.

KS1:

The school day starts at 8:50am and finishes at 3:20pm.

Our KS1 children have daily phonics lessons, English, maths and guided reading. Our children also enjoy weekly science lessons as part of our bespoke curriculum.

In Y1/2, we introduced continuous provision from September 2020 in order to replicate and build on our EYFS approach. Foundation subjects (geography, history, art, DT, music, computing, RE, PE and PSHE) are taught using short inputs from teaching staff which then leads to a task. The classroom has “zones” which provide enriching and authentic learning experiences for our children, including; Construction, Art, Computing, Small World, Water and Home. In addition, our outdoor provision includes Large Construction, Sand and a Mud Kitchen.

We have collective worship every day, which underpins our Methodist ethos and values. Our children also enjoy access to our school library.

KS2:

The school day starts at 9:00am and finishes at 3:30pm.

As well as our daily English, maths, guided reading lessons, our children enjoy science, geography, history, art, DT, music, French, computing, R.E., P.E. and PSHE lessons as part of our bespoke curriculum. We value foundation subjects greatly and so staff may choose to teach these lessons in the mornings on certain days.

We have collective worship every day which underpins our Methodist ethos and values. Our children also enjoy access to our school library.
